Its excellent sedimentation performance and methane production activity are key to the success of an upflow anaerobic sludge bed reactor, and the chemical composition and microbial species of granular sludge play an important role in maintaining its structure.
When Methanogenic bacteria are the dominant species in the system, due to their high affinity for sludge, the resulting granular sludge has better quality; When Bacillus subtilis is the dominant strain, due to its small sludge particles and the presence of bubbles in the cells, it is easier to be washed out of the anaerobic reactor.
